Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary

not that i have long, but ill try and get through this nursery rhyme.
"Mary, Mary quite contrary,
how do your gardens grow?
with silver bells and cockle shells
and pretty maids, all in a row."
Mary is believed to refer to bloody Mary, or queen the Mary the first of England. She was known for her brutal punishments, and the many tortures she conducted. The "gardens" she was growing was more a metaphorical reference to all the people she was killing, and how the graveyards were filling up quickly. Amongst the common folk of England during this time, a Silver bell was a slang term for an instrument of torture, which applied great pressure to the thumbs and/or fingers, and completely crushing them. The cockle shell was another used term for another instrument which was believed to inflict genital torture. A Maid, or a maiden was the name that people used to speak of the guillotine, which was the official instrument used for the be-heading of people.

Poetry Time!

I'm not convinced that I'm that good at poetry, but I'm doing better than most of the people around me! i hate to be negative but writing is a very good way to let yourself flow. Many people use it to express themselves. For each small exert on this post, ill start a new line. the last one, is my reflection of society and how selfish it can be (not always) Yes, you may be inspired by my work, but please do not claim it as your own work. (if you scroll to the bottom of this page, you will notice everything here is copyright.)

Twisted thorns of icy roses
Is what this situation poses
Darker daylight fails to cease
Intense fragments of this belief

Strike like lightning through your anger
Watch how they have been dismembered
Fall forever on broken wings
Listen to the pain they sing

Every soul ever lost to a false execution
Reborn, hearts and mind stand to fight
Never again will they suffer the blackout
The darkest hour which swallowed the night
Within its own expertise.

Like coiled hands, bony, pale and brittle,
The snake curls around something precious and little.
Once more it steals the prey, what was once rightfully theirs.
Like that, you seek revenge yet you never held ownership.
All your dreams are just to far from your grip
Despite all the stares, you only act for what you care.
The snake slithers, away at the end. of another woeful day.
And so do you! So, do you. When will you learn?
This world has nothing for you, only failure standing firm.
Yet the snake will only outdo you, it has better understanding
It only takes what it deserves, not what its demanding
That’s where you went wrong. That’s how you turned into prey.
You became the victim, the snakes very own slave.
Like coiled hands, bony pale and brittle,
The snake curls itself around you, insignificant and little.
Once more you learned the hard way, it is not rightfully yours.

Gothlit.com (gothic literature)

okay, so the other day i was just browsing the Internet (as you do) looking for something to do. i just so happened to stumble upon a rather interesting site called Gothlit, which i couldn't help but share with you! so basically its an online community where people share their poetry (Gothic obviously) like any forum there are those posts that really aren't that great, however i found many amazing poems based on many things. here is a recently posted piece:

Fly Free, submitted by DevilsTears (Kenneth Weaver)
We are trapped,
We are chained,
We are tamed.
Breaking free, we depart,
All of us are split apart,
No longer tied down, we were drowned.
Flying free we soar, raging a useless war,
Promising I will take no more.
We fly free, with only glee,
No one can see,
The dark depression within me.
As we fly free away,
Wild today, gone away.
Never to be seen again, sleeping in my den,
I ignore, their useless war,
We will fly free and soar,
And I shall take no more!

as you can see some of the poetry submitted is just exhilarating! if you choose to join, it is free (we all love freebies) and there is a thread on "how to" which has some excellent tips.
just to add icing on the cake gothlit has a lovely layout that i am sure you will enjoy, everything is black and most headings are written in red Gothic inspired writing. (as in the photo below)Please do check out the website, you certainly wont regret it!
